Violet Town Community Complex

The Community Complex in Cowslip Street is the hub of activities in the town and has a number of spaces that suit the needs of a wide range of activities.

The Violet Town Community House and the library also form part of the complex.

The Complex includes:

Memorial Hall: The hall seats approximately 300, has a stage with curtains, some lighting and newly installed blackout curtains. A small public address system is available to use.

With a polished floor and attractively decorated the hall is suitable for a wide variety of functions – dinners, concerts, film days and nights, exhibitions, conferences, celebrations, etc.

There is ample car parking behind the Community Complex and it is an all accessible facility.

Registered commercial kitchen: The kitchen is also available with an adjoining supper room for smaller meetings and functions.

Meeting Room: The old council chambers is now used as a meeting room and will seat approximately 40 people if needed. It is air conditioned and heated for the comfort of users.

All areas are available for hire either separately or the complex as a whole. The entire complex can be hired or individual areas can be hired separately. Hire rates are extremely competitive.

History of the Violet Town Community Complex

The old brick two storey Memorial Hall was replaced by the present Memorial Hall in 1968 by the former Shire of Violet Town. Shire of Violet Town offices and Council Chambers were added in 1979, and the old library (now the site of the Community House) was extended in 1993.

The complex underwent a major Eco-living retrofit in 2008-2010 and is a showcase of what can be achieved to make a 1960s building a more pleasant facility for users.

A 9KW PV solar system feeds excess energy back into the grid and the roof has been painted with solar reflective paint with a significant reduction to the summer temperatures of the building. The hall is cooled by a huge industrial fan, a stunning feature of the building. A sign at the entrance to the complex documents the story of the Eco-living Project and many of the energy efficiency changes to the buildings.
